Tragic Accident Claims Life of Trailbike Rider in Abberglassyn

A young trailbike rider lost his life in a fatal crash involving two vehicles in the Port Stephens-Hunter Police District on Friday, March 11, 2023. According to reports, the incident occurred around 7:30 pm when emergency services were called to the intersection of McKeachie Drive and Oakhampton Road at Abberglassyn, near Maitland.

The collision involved a trailbike rider, believed to be a man in his twenties, and a silver Nissan Dualis driven by a 17-year-old female. Witnesses at the scene immediately rendered first aid to the rider, but despite their best efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the scene.

The female driver of the Nissan Dualis was the only occupant of the vehicle and thankfully, she was not injured. She was taken to Maitland Hospital for mandatory testing as part of the police investigation into the circumstances of the accident.

Officers from the Port Stephens-Hunter Police District arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and established a crime scene. They have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

The tragic incident has sent shockwaves throughout the local community, with many expressing their condolences and sympathy for the family and loved ones of the young rider who lost his life in the accident.
