In heartbreaking news from the Hunter Valley, police have located a body believed to be that of a 26-year-old woman who vanished after being swept away by floodwaters on Saturday night.
The incident unfolded around 7:50pm on 2 August, when a Mini Countryman attempted to cross rising waters at Black Creek, Old North Road in Rothbury. The driver, a 27-year-old woman, was rescued from the vehicle — but tragically, her passenger was pulled away by the strong current.
Since the incident, a desperate multi-agency search effort was launched at first light each day, involving local police, the Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit, Marine Area Command, NSW SES, VRA Rescue NSW, and NSW RFS.
Earlier today (Wednesday 6 August), VRA Rescue NSW located a body during the ongoing search efforts. While formal identification is pending, authorities believe it to be the missing young woman.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner, as her family, friends, and the local community grapple with this tragic loss.
