Disclaimer: The following is an opinion piece.
If you came here looking for balanced, government-approved climate commentary — you’ve taken a wrong turn on the internet.
You were sold a lie — a dangerous, deceptive lie dressed up in the language of climate action, sustainability, and lower electricity prices.
You were promised cheap renewable energy. Solar power and wind farms were going to save your family money, reduce your electricity bill, and “save the planet.” That’s what the Albo and Bowen claim. That’s what the energy companies promised.
But here’s the truth — the brutal, profit-driven, government-enabled truth:
This isn’t about clean energy. It’s about market control.
Take a look at the latest project in the Hunter Valley. A developer now wants to bolt on a massive 2000 MWh battery storage facility to an already-approved wind farm. They’re calling it “grid stability.” What it really is — is a profit maximisation strategy.
During the day, when energy demand is low and solar generation is high, electricity prices drop to nearly zero. Energy giants store that “cheap renewable energy” using taxpayer-subsidised batteries. Then — when the sun sets, when demand spikes, and when our neglected coal-fired power plants start to strain under the load — that stored energy is released.
And sold to you at the highest possible price.
This is energy market manipulation in its most polished form. A game of arbitrage, rigged with government subsidies, backed by flawed energy policy, and marketed as progress.
While traditional coal power stations — the backbone of reliable baseload energy — are shut down or left to rot, these green giants are gaming the National Electricity Market. What was once about energy reliability and affordability has become a casino, where the house always wins.
And you? You’re just the one paying the electricity bill.
This isn’t capitalism. This is corporate exploitation. It’s a coordinated strategy:
- Use renewable energy incentives and taxpayer funding to crush competitors.
- Create artificial energy shortages by eliminating dispatchable baseload power.
- Control the timing of energy supply using battery storage.
- Wait for peak demand and jack up electricity retail prices.
All under the warm, fuzzy blanket of climate responsibility.
So next time you open your electricity bill and wonder why you’re paying more despite the so-called “cheap” wind and solar revolution, remember this:
It was never about reducing costs. It was never about grid reliability.
It was about using green credentials as a shield for profiteering.
This is the renewable energy scam in a nutshell.
And unless we demand real accountability, independent market oversight, and investment in genuine energy infrastructure, the cost to Australian families will keep rising.
You didn’t vote for this.
You didn’t ask for a manipulated energy market.
But you’re paying for it anyway.
