Police are urgently appealing for public assistance to identify the parents or carers of a young boy found alone overnight in Newcastle.
About 12am on Tuesday, 17 February 2026, officers from the Newcastle City Police District were called to Station Street, Waratah, after reports a child had been located in the area.
Police were told the boy was found in a drain way between Station Street and Platt Street. Despite extensive inquiries with nearby residents and members of the public, officers have been unable to locate his parents or carers.
The boy is believed to be aged between three and four years old. He is described as having an olive complexion, a small build, brown hair and brown eyes, and is non-verbal.
At the time he was found, the boy was wearing a blue singlet top featuring Sonic on the front, pink track pants, and no shoes.
Images of the boy’s clothing and hair have been released on NSW Police Force social media pages.
