Officer Run Down, Suspect Shot After Dramatic Police Incident in Sydney’s South West
A man has been shot and a police officer injured after a violent столк in Sydney’s south west overnight, sparking a major investigation across multiple suburbs.
About 8:40pm on Wednesday (22 April 2026), officers from the Public Order and Riot Squad were patrolling the Punchbowl area when they spotted a reportedly stolen Toyota C-HR on Juno Parade.
As the vehicle stopped in traffic at the intersection of Punchbowl Road, an officer approached to arrest the driver. Police allege the vehicle suddenly accelerated, pinning a sergeant between two cars.
In response, the officer discharged his firearm, striking the vehicle before it fled the scene.
The injured 39-year-old officer was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for lower leg injuries and taken to hospital in a stable condition.
A short time later, just after 9:15pm, emergency services were called to Ryde following reports of an injured man walking along Thorn Street. Police located the abandoned stolen vehicle nearby on Richard Johnson Crescent.
Officers then discovered a 32-year-old man suffering a gunshot wound in the yard of a home on Squires Street. He was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital in a stable condition, where he remains under पुलिस guard.
Crime scenes have been established in both Greenacre and Ryde as detectives investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
