Previously wanted man refused bail on firearm charge after court appearance

Sunday, 19 April 2026

A man who was the subject of a public police appeal last month has faced court and been refused bail over an alleged firearm offence.

Rodney Blair appeared before the Local Court on Sunday via video link, where he was charged with possessing an unauthorised firearm, along with additional alleged offences.

Police had issued a public appeal on March 11 to locate Blair before his subsequent arrest.

Court documents also show he is charged with:

  • Being carried in a conveyance taken without the owner’s consent
  • Failing to appear in accordance with a bail acknowledgment

During the court appearance, the magistrate was told Blair posed an unacceptable risk of failing to appear, and bail was formally refused.

He remains in custody and is due to reappear before Newcastle Local Court Today Monday, 20 April 2026.

Blair has not entered any pleas, and the charges have not been tested in court.

Police investigations are ongoing.
