Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have extinguished a devastating overnight blaze in Dixon Street, Cessnock, which destroyed two units and left four people hospitalized.
The fire broke out around 10:45 PM, prompting more than 22 firefighters and six fire trucks to respond to multiple Triple Zero (000) calls.
Upon arrival, firefighters found two units engulfed in flames across the first and second stories of the building. Crews worked swiftly to contain and extinguish the fire within 45 minutes.
A total of 21 residents were evacuated from the property. NSW Ambulance transported four individuals to the hospital for treatment.
FRNSW concluded their operation at approximately 1:00 AM, handing the site over to NSW Police for further investigation. Specialist fire investigators from FRNSW and NSW Police forensics are set to examine the scene today to determine the cause of the fire.
