Emergency services have swarmed a unit complex on the corner of Darwin and North Ave Streets in Cessnock this afternoon, with reports of an active police siege underway.

A specialist police vehicle, believed to be a BearCat, has been deployed to the scene alongside heavily armed officers, who have established a perimeter around the apartment block.
