Three cheers to Forestry NSW and NSWRFS – Owendale fire now contained

  • Owendale fire started at the beginning of November.
  • Countless man-hours have been dedicated to containing this fire.
  • The fire is now under control

Forestry NSW and NSWRFS have been working in rough terrain now for almost 3 months to contain and stop the spread of the Owendale fire burning in the Pokolbin State Forrest, the fire has been burning in difficult terrain making hard it for ground crews to attack this fire head-on.

A risky tactical backburn was successfully done to protect the town of Broke and everything was looking good.

Last weekend we saw the winds and high-temperature return which brought the fire back to life and it broke containment lines and looked like it was going to head towards Pokolbin, another backburn was on the cards but was canceled due to cooler weather which brought some much needed rain.

This cooler weather has allowed crews to gain the upper hand on the breakout and the fire is now listed as under control.

A huge thank you is owed to Forestry NSW and the NSWRFS for the work they have accomplished since the start of November.

Also a big thank you to Cedar Creek Wombat Rescue for the work they have done protecting the wildlife affected by this fire.
